I’m a professional online-video/software designer/architect/developer with over 20 years of experience. For many years I’ve been a Technical Team Lead for complex ICT projects.
My main area of focus is startup application architectures and related challenges (scalability, performance etcetera), but I’m interested in any software application architecture.
Let’s talk about streaming video! Have you ever wondered how streaming video works? In this video, I’m going to explain the basics of streaming video, so you can understand how it works.
First, let’s talk about the types of frames that are used for streaming video. I-frames, P-frames, and B-frames are the most common. I-frames are the most important frames in a video stream. They are full images that contain all the information needed to display a frame. P-frames contain only the changes from the previous frame, and B-frames contain information from both the previous and upcoming frames.
Next, let’s talk about DRM and streaming video. DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It’s a system that helps protect copyrighted content from unauthorized distribution. DRM is used to prevent people from copying or downloading streaming video content without permission.
Finally, let’s discuss how streaming video works. Streaming video is sent in small chunks of data over the internet, which are then reassembled by the viewer’s device to be viewed.
I will be posting lessons learned, and lessons that I’ll be learning during the coming years. I will also try to write about projects I am working on.
